Heart Rate Chart – Overview & Its Use in Fitness
According to the physician, Galen, the seat of all passion in a human being was the liver (so much for alcoholism, huh?), the brain was the seat of reason and well, the heart no guesses for that one!
But still Ill say it was (and still is) the seat of our emotions. Hence, the bazillion love songs that exploit this metaphor to the hilt
I suppose its fair to say this esoteric-like description of the heart is fair especially when your heart beats faster when you meet that certain hottie youve had your eye on for sometime now
However, there are other reasons as to why keeping track of your heart rate might be useful yeah, you guessed it, for exercise especially when it comes to cardio routines. They call this a heart rate chart
But first, lets look at a few heart rate basics before we get into how it is used to regulate cardio training
Heart Rate Important Terms
First and foremost, your heart rate can be simply defined as the number of times your heart beats per minute or the number of times your heart contract (to pump blood) per minute.
If you want to know how to find your current heart rate is, then you can check your pulse, thanks to the nurse who shows you how to do this at this link.
Secondly, we have the resting heart rate, which tells you number of times your heart beats when you are at rest.
As you might have noticed that these two terms dont have very much to do with when you are exercising, and this is where the next two terms have come into being.
Max Heart Rate is the maximum number of times that your heart should beat when exercising, and while you can check your pulse or use a heart rate monitor to do this, its important to take note of certain formulas that have already been calculated as a kind of a threshold marking for people at different ages that should not be crossed when exercising.
The last term that one should understand is the Average Heart Rate during exercise, and this is simply the number of heart beats per minute during your workout that can be measured using a heart rate monitor or just by taking your pulse.
Heart Rate Chart How it can help you
Now, if youve understood the last two terms, you must also understand another term that is directly involved with exercising, and that is the Target Heart Rate.
Depending on the fitness level that you would wish to achieve, there are certain intensity levels that you have to maintain in order to meet certain objectives, and you will understand what Im trying to convey when you look at the chart provided at this link. NOTE: Its at the bottom of the page.
And it does get harder as you maintain your heart rate closer to Max HR throughout the workout and which is also an indicator of how fit you really are!
If you want to know what the Max HR rates specifically to your age, then you can find a Max heart rate chart at this link.
