Carson Daly and Siri Pinter Expecting Baby No. 2

The nations up and coming Dick Clark and the voice of the New Years Eve countdown is expecting his second child with girlfriend Siri Pinter during the remainder of the 2012 year.

Carson Daly, who acquired his fame on MTV, is said to welcome the newest addition in early September.

Pinter shared the information on her blog, writing: “There is a baby in there … and that baby has been living there for about 5 and a half months already!”

Congratulations to Siri, Carson, and big brother Jackson James!

Top doctor decries political ‘finger pointing’ over drug shortage

Politicians failed Canadians during the recent drug shortage by engaging in a blame game rather than finding real solutions to a life-threatening situation, the head of the Canadian Medical Association says.

John Haggie told the Commons health committee Thursday that the 76,000 doctors represented by his association and the Canadians they serve want to remind members of Parliament that they are the country’s leaders.

“At a time like this, when Canadians are facing what is nothing less than a national crisis, they look to you and your peers in legislatures across the country to exercise that leadership and live up to the trust that has been placed in you,” Dr. Haggi

The Path to Personalized Cancer Treatment

In the largest study of its kind, researchers have profiled genetic changes in cancer with drug sensitivity in order to develop a personalised approach to cancer treatments. The study is published in Nature on Thursday 29 March 2012.

The team uncovered hundreds of associations between mutations in cancer genes and sensitivity to anticancer drugs. One of the key responses the team found was that cells from a childhood bone cancer, Ewing’s sarcoma, respond to a drug that is currently used in the treatment of breast and ovarian cancers. The lowered toxicity of this treatment may mean it is a safer alternative therapy for children and young adults with this aggressive cancer.
