In a bioinformatics breakthrough, iMinds – STADIUS – KU Leuven researchers have successfully applied advanced artificial intelligence to enable the automated analysis of huge amounts of genetic data. Their new software suite, eXtasy, automatically generates the most likely cause of a given genetic disorder. The breakthrough directly impacts the treatment of millions of people with a hereditary disease.
At least 5% of the world population suffers from a rare, hereditary disease. Until recently, the origins of these genetic disorders could be correctly identified in only half of all cases.
A new study suggests spanking children can actually cause them to do poorly in school and behave worse.
Researchers at Columbia University found kids who were spanked at 5yearsold were slightly more likely to be aggressive and break rules later on in elementary school.
According to the Los Angeles Times, 1,500 families were asked questions about their child’s behavior and whether they had spanked their children within the last month.
The answer was frequently ‘yes’ with 52 percent of mothers and 33 percent of fathers saying they spanked their children when they were 5 years old.
When the kids turned 9, parents were again asked about their child’s behavior.
If theres anything thats true about Indians, it is the fact that most of us eat with our hands. Most Westerners frown at the idea of doing so, considering it to be primitive.

Of course, there are a few white folk who dont mind using their hands when they come to India.
As a textbook Type A personality, I love challenges. I can be a little bit quiet in social situations, and challenges bring out my competitive spirit – but here’s a secret: my most fierce competitor has always been myself. Can I do this? Can I commit to myself and hold myself accountable for the duration of this challenge? Can I prove myself wrong? The harder the challenge the more determined I become.
For me, completing a challenge is about busting through the self-limiting beliefs that I have about myself: I’m not a disciplined person, I can’t hold a plank for more than 30 seconds, I’m not strong enough to do an arm balance, I’m not a morning person.
I’ve got my challenge format worked out and I get excited every time the opportunity comes up to start a new one (to the great dismay of my very patient boyfriend). I
